Sydenham Church
On 15 November 2009
Sydenham congregation celebrated the 50th anniversary of
their church building. The service was conducted by Bishop Naidoo
and over 270 members attended, including Sister Ethel Diaz who was
the first to be married in the church in 1959.
After service the
members gathered in a hall for a luncheon where many previous
rectors and members shared experiences.
The work initially
started in this part of Durban in 1923 when brother F J Conning
moved to the area and started testifying to the local community. With time several congregations and missions developed
but were combined when the church building was completed in Saunders
Road. The church was built by the Apostle Bell with the help of
local brothers, themselves in the building industry, and inaugurated
by District Apostle J R Kreunen.
