Self-Help Projects
09.02.2007
A culture of self-help is continuing to develop among our members. Here
follows an overview of what some congregations have done lately.
Pinetown Congregation
The Pinetown Congregation raised funds to erect a steel fence around their
church. There are future plans to install remote control gates and extra
lighting for the parking area around the church.
Valhalla
Thanks to various fundraising efforts, a new palisade fence was erected around
the church premises. Members painted the finished fence on Saturdays. Currently
they are building a brick wall between them and their immediate neighbours.
Gezina
The maintenance committee decided to replace the carpets in the church since the
Marley tiles were broken and loose in many places. The altar area was tiled and
the cloakrooms were upgraded.
Eersterust South
Eersterust South replaced the carpets around the altar with ceramic tiles and
blinds were fitted to the church windows. The existing mothers’ room was divided
into two to accommodate a new vestry as the existing one was too small. The
garden and church entrance was also given a facelift.
Silverton
Silverton congregation erected a fence around their church premises. The garden
was also completely revamped while a ramp next to the entrance of church was
built to facilitate the mobility of members in wheelchairs.
Bochum
The concregation of Bochum painted the interior and exterior of their church,
relaid the carpets and tiled the area around the altar.
