Tornado Hits Klerksdorp

08.05.2007

On Sunday afternoon, 4 March 2007, whilst many of the residents of Klerksdorp were taking their afternoon nap, disaster was about to strike. At first a wind that stirred up an unusual amount of dust blew over the area. As the dust settled, a mighty gust of wind hit the outlying suburb and township of Alabama and Jouberton, ripping off roofs of buildings, uprooting trees and flattening lamp poles. There was debris all over. Sadly, many families were rendered homeless, amongst them were some of our brethren as well. One of our families, the Nqwathis, also lost their 80 year old mother when the roof of a building caved in on her.

Alabama and Jouberton were declared a disaster area. Bishop Petersen put out an immediate call for welfare support. The doctrine of Christ teaches us to love our neighbour as ourself; this was proven by the overwhelming response by God's people who donated food, clothes, blankets and money. Some even made their vehicles available to transport the goods to those affected.
