Born 26
years ago without the ability to walk, Nkos’khona Khumalo has been
confined in a wheelchair for as long as he could remember.
To many,
the inconvenience of not being able to walk would dampen their spirit to
a point of despair, resulting in unfulfilled dreams and in extreme
cases, a life filled with resentment and loneliness. Not to Nkos’khona.
Such is his love for God that he has been attending divine services for
years despite his disability.
One thing
that bothered him though, is the fact that he had to rely on family
members to help him. In 2008, Nkos’khona, driven by a will to be
independent, requested Bishop Milazi to assist him get a battery
controlled wheelchair.
Fearing that his area may lack the
capacity to raise the required funds, Bishop Milazi passed on the
request to Apostle Mkhwanazi. The Apostle Mkhwanazi discussed this with
the Apostle Joubert and they decided to run this as a combined project
between their two apostle areas. A fund raising initiative
concentrating mainly on office bearers in the areas of Apostle Mkhanazi
and Apostle Joubert was initiated. Thanks to a number of servants of God
in these areas who opened their hearts by contributing towards this
initiative, Nkos’khona’s dream was realised. Nkos’khona is now a proud
owner of a battery operated wheelchair which was officially handed over
to him on 12 of July 2009.

climb into his new wheelchair
Asked how
he was feeling after receiving the wheelchair, Nkos’khona replied that
he was very happy about the gesture shown by the church and that he was
at a loss for words to express his gratitude.
